Lego's Enduring Popularity

Almost every child’s toy chest across the world will contain Lego, regardless of what quantity it comes in. Since being introduced in the 1950’s, the colourful bricks have retained their popularity, being named “Toy of the Century” by British Toy Retailers Association and by Fortune magazine. Lego beat such toys as Mattel’s Barbie and the teddy bear! The seeds of the Lego Group can be located in 1932 when Danish Ole Kirk Christiansen began making wooden toys for children in Billund, Denmark. The plastic Lego brick as we now know it and as it is in your Lego ninjago was launched in 1958. As it was so colourful, durable, and simple, the Lego brick as it was designed in 1958 proved exceptionally popular.

The plastic bricks forms an interlocking system that has just the correct amount of grip to enable children to take them apart easily, yet for them to hold together well. The perfect design. The Lego Group’s consistency may also be part of the secret of their success, as the bricks they make nowadays still interlock with pieces that were manufactured in the 1950’s.
